Program
This course guided participants through all the stages of the production pipeline, from initial ideas to festival-ready films. This unique mentored program was for image makers who would like to work in a structured way towards producing a short film supported by an experienced filmmaker, your peers, and PhotoAccess. On completion, films were screened at a local venue.
For 2024, participants had the opportunity to work under the guidance of award-winning Writer/Director/Producer Nathan Hughes, whose work was described by Encounters – the UK’s leading short film festival, as ‘demonstrating a distinctive artistic and cinematic vision’. His work has been supported by The British Council, Reykjavik International Talent Lab, London Screenwriter’s Festival and Creative Europe, and his dramas, docos and design fictions have screened at prestigious international film festivals. Nathan likely developed projects alongside this program, enabling valuable insights into the tribulations and triumphs of low-budget independent filmmaking.
In Concept to Short Film, participants initiated a personal film project and developed it over the year through Nathan’s mentorship and guidance, with input and discussion from their workshop peers, and benefited from an opportunity to work in a structured environment.
