Alex was previously the Registration Manager of the Biennale of Sydney for 2 editions and has held exhibition management roles roles at Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery in Sydney and the National Museum of Australia. He has also worked closely as an assistant to some of Australia’s leading contemporary artists including Simryn Gill and Dale Frank. He is a current PhD Candidate at the ANU where his research is focused on the importance of materiality for audiovisual archives. Alex is excited to lead the next group in an 11-month program to formulate, develop, and execute a collaborative show in the PhotoAccess Gallery in late 2024. Participants will be mentored and supported to develop a conceptually driven, cohesive body of work, reflective of their own personal interests, and to develop and strengthen their own artistic voice. The group will meet regularly throughout the program, providing each other with encouragement, feedback, ideas, art and photographic references and inspiration. Participants will gain experience in developing a proposal, writing an impactful artist statement, and working sequentially through the full range of practical, visual, and conceptual considerations associated with preparing for and delivering a successful gallery exhibition. Improve your ability to read your own images, each other’s, and the work of other artists. You will be supported to expand your visual literacy and ability to position yourself and your work within an art historical context, improving your ability to identify and articulate connections between your work and the significant national and global issues and themes of our times, including social, political, economic, and environmental.
