Learn the exciting skills that digital photography can offer!

Over two days, participants will learn the basics of digital photography and studio lighting, go on interesting photo walks and learn how to express stories through image-making. Digital photography is a great way to re-frame the world through the camera lens and this two-day workshop is perfect for budding photographers to explore and express their ideas creatively.

Students will learn the ins and outs of a digital camera, how to capture images successfully, how to select and edit images, as well as understand lighting and studio photography, still lifes and portraits.

All cameras and equipment are provided! Kids can also bring their own camera if it’s in good working order. Suited for ages 8 -16 years old.

Program

Day 1: Digital Photography Basics and Editing

  • Digital basics with Canon cameras
  • Photo walk around Manuka Arts Centre & Telopea Park
  • Starting to edit and understand Adobe

Day 2: Portraiture & Lighting

  • Setting up photobooth and understanding basic studio lighting
  • Taking photos with photobooth in line with their themes and stories
  • Continued editing and understanding Adobe
  • Finalising selection of images and showcase of work

What's provided

  • Digital cameras for use during photo walks and digital photography sessions
  • Laptop computers equipped with Adobe Suite for image editing
  • Studio lighting equipment and backdrops
  • Printing and any physical collage materials for final story creations
  • Snacks (fruit, chip packets, juice) – please advise of any allergies beforehand

What to bring

  • Comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor photo walks and studio activities (hat, sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, backpack, jumper or hoodie)
  • Notebooks or sketchbooks for jotting down ideas, notes, and reflections.
  • Personal digital cameras or smartphones for capturing images during the photo walks (optional, as cameras will be provided).
  • Lunch for each day
  • Water bottles and snacks to stay hydrated and energised throughout the day.
  • A USB flash drive or portable storage device to save and transfer digital images and projects created during the workshop (optional)
  • Any personal items or accessories that inspire creativity or enhance the photography experience, such as favourite photography books or inspirational images.
