photo access invites you to the launch of Odette England’s latest book, To Be Developed, To Be Continued, with a special Q&A between the artist and award-winning author and art critic Quentin Sprague.
A girl becoming a teenager, a parent turning 50, and the ever changing relationships between youth and age, and who is seen and who is not.
Winner of the 2023 Tall Poppy Press award, the book combines England’s photographs with prose from Season Butler’s Cygnet: A Novel (2019, Harper) reworked by England.

Odette England
Odette Elix England is an artist and writer. She is a 2022 Guggenheim Foundation Fellow and has received grants and awards from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, Puffin Foundation, and Anonymous Was a Woman, among many others. She has published six books and will shortly release her first novella Isn’t X Beautiful. Elix England received her MFA in Photography in 2012 and her Ph.D. in 2018. She teaches at the Rhode Island School of Design and at Brown University while working on her second novella, Once I Was A Photograph.
Quentin Sprague
Quentin Sprague is an award-winning author and art critic. His work appears widely, including regularly in The Monthly. His latest collection of essays, What Artists See, offers glimpses into the lives of Australia’s best contemporary artists, exploring the impetus for creativity and the role of art in making meaning of this place and time.
