Studying Screen Production in the late nineties – a time teetering on the cusp of digital imagery – Skye directed 16mm film clips for Brisbane bands.
Time was spent shooting her own vignettes and small documentaries on 8mm film, only to sadly discover she is not a cinematographer. Skye’s own 8mm film family archives have become the only source material she trusts. Years spent interrogating and interrupting the gaze of her forbears now culminate in abstract scans of celluloid that try to transcend.
Skye remains preoccupied with the almost defunct idea that film is a medium where repressed desires can make themselves known.
