Join us for a partnered workshop with photo access’ printmaking counterpart Megalo Print Studio and kickstart your journey into duotone printing guided by expert tutors. In this weekend workshop you’ll explore the wonderland that is Jerrabomberra Wetlands guided by photo access’ own Gabrielle Hall-Lomax. She will be at your service teaching you camera basics to get the most out of your apparatus, be it your smartphone or an actual camera. The second part of the workshop will take place at Megalo Print Studio where expert screen printer Elise Stanley will be your guide. At the end of your workshop, you’ll take home a small edition of handmade duotone prints!
Whether you’re passionate about photography, curious about screen printing, or simply seeking a fresh creative outlet, this workshop warmly invites individuals of all experience levels. Don’t miss out on this remarkable chance to learn from two of Canberra’s most esteemed arts organisations.
Day One: Immerse Yourself in the Wetlands
Explore the captivating beauty of the wetlands with a seasoned photo access tutor. Capture stunning natural landscapes and wildlife while receiving expert guidance on composition, lighting, and various photography techniques. The day will conclude at the photo access maker spaces where you’ll be guided through preparing your digital images digitally for the upcoming screen-printing process.
Day Two: Craft Your Prints at Megalo Print Studio
On day two, you’ll meet at Megalo Print Studio, where you’ll be guided by an expert Megalo printmaker on the intricacies of screen printing. In this hands-on session, participants will expose their final images to their screens via UV light, adding a layer of skill and insight to the process. Building on the images captured during the wetlands exploration on Day One, participants will print both single and two-colour versions of their images. This immersive experience ensures that the prints produced vividly reflect the unique essence of the wetlands, offering a tangible expression of the natural beauty captured through the lenses.
Wetlands Narratives: From lens to screenprint takes place the weekend of 1 and 2 June 2024, both days from 10 am – 4 pm. On day one participants will meet tutor Gabrielle Hall-Lomax at the Jerrabomberra Wetlands carpark at 9:45 am to ensure a 10 am start. On the second day the group will meet Elise Stanley at Megalo Print Studio at 10 am.
Gabrielle Hall-Lomax is a visual artist living and working in Canberra. She has a keen focus on alternative photographic processes, specifically combining digital photography and painting techniques. Gabrielle is a graduate from RMIT University where she completed an Honours Degree in Fine Art. In 2020 she completed her Masters in Arts and Cultural Management at The University of Melbourne.
